To celebrate the launch of VIVI’s brand-new 2024 build, we sat down with her captain — a seasoned sailor with deep roots in the ocean, a calm leadership style, and a passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences. In this exclusive interview, he shares his personal journey, favorite moments at sea, and what you can expect when stepping aboard S/C VIVI.

At the Helm
What inspired you to become a yacht charter captain, and how did you get started in this profession?
I started sailing when I was 5 — my father and grandfather are great sailors, and the ocean kind of raised me. It started as a hobby, turned into a lifestyle, and eventually a profession. After years of recreational sailing, I realized I wanted to make a living doing what I love, so I got commercial certified and started running charters. That was about 10 years ago, and I've been sailing between the Caribbean and Mediterranean ever since.
What do you love most about being a yacht captain?
The freedom, the nature, the people — I get to share what I love with others and show them the magic of life at sea.
What is the most challenging aspect of being a yacht charter captain, and the most rewarding?
Weather can be tricky — it keeps you humble. But when a plan B becomes the best day of the trip, that’s rewarding. And of course, guest satisfaction — knowing they had the trip of a lifetime makes it all worth it.
What do you think sets your yacht charter apart from others in the industry?
It’s all about the vibe — I keep things relaxed but super professional. I focus on creating an experience that feels personalized, safe, and connected to nature. Plus, my background in mechanics and electronics means the boat runs smoothly and guests don’t have to worry about a thing.
What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career as a yacht charter captain?
Stay calm, stay flexible, and always be prepared. The sea doesn’t care about your plans — so I’ve learned to adapt quickly while keeping guests safe and happy.

From your experience, what makes a charter truly memorable for guests?
The little things — like a perfect sunset sail, a spontaneous dolphin sighting, or sharing stories under the stars. People remember how they felt, not just where they went.
How do you ensure the safety and comfort of your guests while at sea?
I always check weather windows, keep the boat well-maintained, and make sure everyone feels secure. I brief guests on what to expect and adapt routes if needed.
Are there any onboard safety or etiquette rules you always emphasize with guests?
Barefoot on deck, keep things tidy, and always listen to crew instructions during maneuvers. Safety first, fun always.
What steps do you take to make sure every guest feels comfortable and looked after?
Open communication is key. We check in regularly, anticipate needs, and always keep an eye on how everyone’s doing — especially first-timers at sea.

One standout is our high-speed Starlink internet — it’s fast, stable, and lets guests stay connected if they need to. The yacht is also fully autonomous when it comes to power and water, so we’re free to roam without needing constant shore stops. That freedom makes a huge difference in the experience.
What are the different activities available on your yacht, and which are the most popular?
We’ve got snorkeling, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, beach exploring, and even some sailing lessons for those interested. Snorkeling and wakeboarding are probably the most popular — guests love the mix of adrenaline and connection with the sea.
What is your favorite part of the yacht and why?
Definitely the flybridge — it’s got this huge comfy couch, lounge zones, a table perfect for card games, and a full acrylic Bimini so guests can enjoy 360-degree views and see the sails in action without missing a beat. And, of course, my helm station is right there, so I get the best seat in the house!

Memorable Experiences
Can you share a particularly memorable experience you had with guests on a charter?
Once we anchored off a secluded cove and a pod of dolphins showed up right before sunset. The guests jumped in, and it turned into this magical, spontaneous swim no one will ever forget.
Any challenging sail experiences due to the weather?
Definitely. I’ve had to reroute during squalls in the Med — tight calls, but preparation and calm decision-making kept everything smooth and safe.
A sea animal sighting that you’ll never forget?
A whale breaching just off our bow in the Grenadines. The size, the sound — it was humbling and awe-inspiring.

Insider Advice
What advice would you give to someone considering a yacht charter for the first time?
First — don’t overpack, and use soft bags (hard luggage just doesn’t work well on a boat). Once you're aboard, put your phone down and really connect with nature. And yeah, party with our amazing cocktails — it’s part of the fun — but keep it balanced. The boat can turn into a dangerous place if you’ve had a bit too much.
What is your favorite island in the BVI/ Caribbean?
Guana Island — no question. The beach has that powdery white sand and crystal-blue water that feels like paradise. And the sunsets? Unbeatable.
